چکیده

This paper presents a tableau approach for deciding description logics outside the scope of OWL DL/1.1 and current state-of-the-art tableau-based description logic systems. In particular, we de ne a sound and complete tableau calculus for the description logic ALBO and show that it provides a basis for decision procedures for this logic and numerous other description logics with full role negation. ALBO is the extension of ALC with the Boolean role operators, inverse of roles, domain and range restriction operators and it includes full support for nominals (individuals). ALBO is a very expressive description logic which subsumes Boolean modal logic and the two-variable fragment of rst-order logic and reasoning in it is NExpTime-complete. An important novelty is the use of a generic, unrestricted blocking rule as a replacement for standard loop checking mechanisms implemented in description logic systems. An implementation of our approach exists in the MetTeL system.

Description Logic and Order-sorted Logic

I have been studying the following work on description logic, which is closely related to my main work on extensions of order-sorted logic and logic programming [4, 3, 2]. Title: Negation in Description Logics: Contraries, Contradictories and Subcontraries (under submission) Abstract: We propose an alternative description logic ALC∼ with classical negation and strong negation. In particular, we...

A Tableaux-based Method for Computing Least Common Subsumers for Expressive Description Logics

Least Common Subsumers (LCS) have been proposed in Description Logics (DL) to capture the commonalities between two or more concepts. Since its introduction in 1992, LCS have been successfully employed as a logical tool for a variety of applications, spanning from inductive learning, to bottom-up construction of knowledge bases, information retrieval, to name a few. The best known algorithm for...

Decision Procedures for Expressive Description Logics with Intersection, Composition, Converse of Roles and Role Identity

In the quest for expressive description logics for real-world applications, a powerful combination of constructs has so far eluded practical decision procedures: intersection and composition of roles. We propose tableau-based decision procedures for the satisfiability of logics extending ALC with the intersectionu, composition◦, uniont, converse ·− of roles and role identity id(·). We show that...

Tableau-based Decision Procedures for Hybrid Logic

Hybrid logics are a principled generalization of both modal logics and description logics. It is well-known that various hybrid logics without binders are decidable, but decision procedures are usually not based on tableau systems, a kind of formal proof procedure that lends itself towards computer implementation. In this paper we give four different tableaubased decision procedures for a very ...
